What does “Work-Life Balance” mean?

In the natural world all organisms are trying to maintain equilibrium, a homeostasis.  Our bodies continually strive to remain in a state of balance.  Humans seem to do all we can to prevent this from happening, including stressing over our working lives.  There are many schools of thought that believe in the illusion, work is life, and becoming a more productive worker creates the ultimate balance socially and psychologically within the individual and group.

Work-life can be:

1.  Your existence while at work,

2.  The separation of work and living, or

3.  A combination of the two.

It’s all about time; minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years, your time.  Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow, so how will you spend the time you have?

There are 24 hours in the day, about 1/3 of those hours are spent in sleep, leaving 2/3 for other activities, some of which may be work.

Balance does not necessarily mean 1/3 work, 1/3 life and 1/3 rest, but the opportunity to create a personal balance through managing time to fulfill your life’s dreams and desires.

While you are looking at the huge number of franchise offerings in the food and hospitality industry, keep in mind your ultimate goal, whatever it may be, and consider the following:

Owning a business that is open 16 hours a day, 7 days per week, means being responsible for everything that occurs during those hours (112 hours per week).

Assume healthy sleep habits (56 hours per week).

112 + 56 = 168

There are only 168 hours in one week.

Owning a  business that is open 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (40 hours) and having healthy sleeping habits (56 hours) leaves a total of 72 hours to spend with your loved ones, enjoying all your personal activities, participate in social and civic events; leaving you able to choose what is important in YOUR LIFE.  Wealth is about choice, choose Work-Life Balance.

Is a De La Cruz Deli Restaurant for you?

Answer these simple questions for yourself:

1.    What is it I enjoy doing?

2.   What is most important in my life?

3.   What does success mean to me?

4.   Do I like interacting with other people?

5.   Do I participate in planning and cooking meals?

6.   Do I know my way around a kitchen?

7.   Can I tell the difference between great food and mediocre fare?

8.   Do I value my recreational time?

9.   Do I realize that I am ultimately responsible for any endeavor I pursue?

There are no correct or incorrect answers to these questions.  They are just here to help you make a decision.  Only you know how you feel about food, people, work, and life.

There are many franchise offerings available for promising entrepreneurs.  When you examine a potential investment ask yourself, how much of my time (read that as “your life”) does this project require?  Do not misunderstand, if you are looking for an investment that requires only financial involvement a De La Cruz Deli Restaurant may not be for you.  However, if you enjoy meeting people and providing an affordable quality experience, we should talk.
